Public Sector People are working with a regional council who are seeking an experienced Workplace Health and Safety Advisor on a long-term contract.

This is a role where you will actively contribute to providing strategic, innovative and accountable leadership ensure that Council achieves its goals and performance targets in relation to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Lead and support the development, implementation, and improvement of HSW risk management processes, focusing on critical risks, incident investigation, and continuous system enhancement.
  • Lead and support the implementation and improvement of the HSW Management System, including procedures and documentation, to enhance hazard control and risk management.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and performance evaluations to monitor HSW implementation, analyze trends, and drive improvements in risk controls and the HSW management system.
  • Provide expert advice to foster HSW maturity, support continuous improvement, and guide change management to enhance safety culture and outcomes.
  • Manage HSW data and reporting systems, analyze trends, and support training and awareness to enhance HSW skills and evidence-based practices.
  • Foster strong relationships to advise and support HSW decision-making, empower workers to address safety threats, and enhance communication and consultation processes.
About you:
  • Well-developed knowledge of HSW management and compliance requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications (Degree or Advanced Diploma) in work health and safety
  • Detailed knowledge of current Work Health & Safety and Worker's Compensation and Rehabilitation legislation, regulations, codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Cert4 safety minimum
  • Sound working knowledge in leading investigations, audits, risk assessments, policy development, systems management and delivering strategic H&S objectives and targets.
  • Knowledge of National Self Insurer WHS Audit Tool. (highly desirable)
