Water & Wastewater Manager Cobar Shire Council Lead critical water and wastewater operations in one of NSW’s most unique and community-focused regional councils.
Cobar Shire Council is seeking an experienced and hands-on Water & Wastewater Manager to oversee the delivery, operation and continuous improvement of essential water and sewer infrastructure across the Shire. Reporting to the Director Engineering Services, this is a key leadership role responsible for treatment operations, reticulation networks, maintenance programs, capital works delivery and technical support to the Cobar Water Board.
This is an opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership position where you will influence long-term infrastructure outcomes while leading operational teams across treatment, delivery and maintenance functions. The role sits within Council’s Engineering Services directorate alongside roads, urban services and infrastructure operations.
The Opportunity You will lead the operational and capital programs for water and wastewater services, ensuring infrastructure is maintained, renewed and upgraded in line with service standards, regulatory requirements and community expectations. The role has a strong operational focus and will suit someone who enjoys balancing leadership, technical problem solving, compliance and project delivery.
Key responsibilities include: - Leading water and sewer treatment, reticulation and maintenance operations
- Managing operational teams, supervisors and contractors
- Overseeing capital works and infrastructure renewal programs
- Providing technical advice to Council and the Cobar Water Board
- Driving continuous improvement, compliance and asset management outcomes
- Managing budgets, procurement and contractor performance
- Supporting long-term sustainability and risk management initiatives
About You Council is seeking a practical and capable leader with strong operational water industry experience and the ability to work effectively across technical, strategic and people leadership functions.
To be successful you will bring:
- Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar
- Extensive operational experience within water and wastewater services
- Strong knowledge of treatment operations, reticulation and asset management
- Demonstrated leadership capability across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience managing contractors, budgets and capital programs
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- A collaborative and improvement-focused approach
