Waste Operations Coordinator

Public Sector People are partnering with a local council in Melbourne’s northern suburbs to recruit an experienced Waste Operations Coordinator for a 3-month temporary contract.

Location: Northern Suburbs, Melbourne
Duration: ASAP start, 3-month temporary contract
Rate:  $86 per hour + super
Hours: 38 hours per week

This is a great opportunity to step into a leadership role overseeing a broad range of essential waste and cleansing services that support the community.

About the role
We are looking for a proactive and capable professional to coordinate and oversee the delivery of Waste Operations services. This includes road and pavement sweeping, drainage cleansing, litter and illegally dumped waste removal (including hazardous materials), graffiti removal, trolley and charity bin impoundment, and broader waste response programs.

You will also coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of contracted services, ensure smooth day-to-day operations, and promote a strong safety-first culture across the team. 

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee Waste Operations services and contractors
  • Monitor operational performance and manage risks
  • Drive a safety-focused culture in line with OH&S requirements
  • Provide reporting, briefings, and advice to senior stakeholders
  • Oversee financial performance, including forecasting and reporting
About you
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or significant experience in waste, engineering, environmental science, or a related field
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams, preferably in waste or another operational context within a Local Government.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing reports and presentations
  • Sound understanding of waste management practices and legislation
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Current driver’s licence
