This role plays a key part in improving safety for all road users by implementing the SafeRoads4council strategy, reducing road trauma, and fostering strong partnerships with key stakeholders including Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Queensland Police, and Queensland Health.
Key Responsibilities - Coordinate the evaluation of the SafeRoads4coucil Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan
- Investigate and deliver effective road safety interventions across the region
- Monitor, analyse, and report on road safety data, including fatalities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate road safety programs using a Safe Systems approach
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including TMR, Police, schools, and community groups
- Provide specialist traffic engineering and road safety advice
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and correspondence for senior leadership and elected officials
- Support and mentor team members while fostering a positive, collaborative culture
About You You are a proactive and collaborative professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for improving road safety outcomes. You can communicate complex concepts clearly and influence stakeholders to adopt best-practice solutions.
Essential Requirements - Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Behavioral Sciences, or a related discipline (or extensive relevant experience in road safety)
Strong knowledge of Queensland road safety legislation, including:
- Transport Operations (Road User Management) Act
- Road Rules Regulation
- Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
- Relevant Australian Standards
- Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating road safety or behavioral programs
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and produce clear, concise reports
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
Highly Regarded - Qualifications in Traffic Engineering
- Eligibility for RPEQ (Civil Engineering) registration
- Experience with traffic modelling tools such as SIDRA Intersections and STREAMS
- Experience in traffic management across urban and rural networks, including active transport planning
