We are looking for an early-career Traffic & Design Engineer who is enthusiastic, eager to learn, and keen to build their technical skills by working alongside experienced engineers in a supportive team environment.
This 6-month temporary contract offers the chance to contribute to a diverse mix of traffic, transport, and civil design projects within a collaborative and high-performing local council.
To succeed in this role, you will need to bring previous local government experience in engineering ideally with 2–3 years of consistent project, traffic, or introductory design experience. We’re particularly interested in candidates who:
- Have experience using CAD for road, drainage, or traffic-related projects;
- Have worked across a variety of local government engineering tasks, even if not at a senior level;
- Understand how local councils operate and can quickly adapt to processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to customer service requests relating to traffic, parking, and street lighting, working closely with the operations team to implement practical solutions.
- Review and approve Traffic Management Plans (TMPs)
for both internal delivery teams and external contractors, with a focus on summer festivals and community events.
- Assess applications for WWRR, MOA, and NHRV permits
in accordance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Prepare road geometric concept designs for low-risk gravel and rural road construction using CAD, supporting in-house delivery.
- Develop functional and concept traffic and active transport path designs using CAD software.

Experience Required: - Previous experience/ exposure as an engineer in Victorian local government.
- Tertiary Degree in Civil Engineering recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia.
- CAD experience in roads, roads and drainage and traffic.
- Project or traffic experience and/or introduction to design experience. (2-3 years consistent experience)
