Public Sector People (PSP) are currently partnering with a local council in Melbourne’s northern suburbs to recruit an experienced Systems Engineer for a temporary full-time contract position.
  • Role: Systems Engineer
  • Hours: 38 hours per week
  • Contract: 1st July – 20th November 2025
  • Pay Rate: $85 per hour + super
  • Location: Northern Suburbs of Melbourne
About the Role:
Our client is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to ensure their IT infrastructure, including network, telephony, and server systems are running efficiently and securely. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving IT operations and documentation, supporting third-level helpdesk requests, and managing disaster recovery processes. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 3rd-level support for escalated technical issues related to database systems, networking, and PC applications
  • Maintain and enhance system documentation, configuration guides, operational instructions, and related policies and procedures
  • Manage and support external site connectivity including internet and remote access, ensuring reliability and security across multiple locations
  • Implement and maintain the IT Disaster Recovery Plan, including contributing to improvements and leading annual DR testing exercises
  • Support and maintain IT’s server infrastructure including Active Directory, Windows Servers (2016–2022), Microsoft Exchange, Citrix, VMware, and SAN environments
  • Participate in change management processes to ensure smooth rollouts and minimal disruption to services
  • Assist the Infrastructure Coordinator with developing strategies, policies and system improvements aligned with organisational goals

About You:
  • Previous experience in a similar Systems Engineer role, ideally within local government or a related sector (education, NFP, or healthcare)
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information systems, or related field
  • Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft environments including server and desktop operating systems, O365, SCCM, and SCOM
  • Familiarity with scripting (PowerShell, VBScript), SQL Server, and network troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with budgeting practices
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with a collaborative and proactive approach
