Public Sector People is recruiting for a Senior Saleyards Officer on behalf of a Local Government Council.
This role is a temporary position with potential for extension. The Saleyards team is responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant operations while providing high-quality service to stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
About the role:
As a Senior Saleyards Officer, you will support the Saleyards Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the facility, ensuring compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety standards. You will be a senior point of contact when the Manager is unavailable, manage administration and recordkeeping, coordinate maintenance and asset management, and liaise with agents, vendors, and transport operators to ensure smooth livestock sales and operations.

Keys to Success:
- Knowledge and experience in livestock handling and saleyard operations
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Competent in Microsoft Office and industry-specific software systems
- Local Government experience desirable
- 12-Month Contract + Likely Extension
- Emerald, QLD - onsite
- $59.76 + Super
- 38 hours per week
- Monday to Friday – with flexibility for out-of-hours operations when required
- Provide accurate and timely administrative support and maintain livestock records.
- Assist with asset management, risk management, and WH&S compliance.
- Oversee safe and humane livestock handling in line with biosecurity requirements.
- Support operational budgeting, revenue growth, and cost efficiency.
- Liaise with stakeholders including agents, vendors, and transport operators.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions when required
- Capable of handling physical tasks including lifting up to 15kg.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Holds a minimum of a Queensland C Class driver’s licence.
