Senior Data Engineer – 12 Month Contract

Public Sector People are partnering with a local council in Western Sydney to recruit a Senior Data Engineer on a 12-month contract. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative data projects that support one of the most dynamic and fast-growing regions in New South Wales.

The role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be leading data development efforts across large-scale business intelligence initiatives. You’ll work with cutting-edge technology including Azure Data Factory, Power BI Fabric Pipelines, and DAX modelling, driving data insights that inform key strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop and optimise data pipelines and semantic models in Azure Data Factory and Power BI Fabric
Build dashboards, reports, and analytics that deliver actionable insights
Extract and integrate data from various source systems and APIs
Use advanced SQL, Power Query, and DAX to transform and analyse data
Collaborate with stakeholders across business units to define data needs and deliver solutions
Lead by example and mentor junior team members
Work in a multi-vendor, multi-stakeholder environment to drive project outcomes

Essential Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar
Over 10 years’ experience in BI and data engineering roles
Advanced proficiency in SQL, ETL, Power BI, and Azure cloud services
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a stakeholder-first mindset
Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and within budget
Class C Driver’s Licence

Desirable:

Agile project management experience
Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or other cloud ecosystems
Certifications in BI or data management
Exposure to advanced analytics and data science methodologies
Local government experience
