Senior Payroll Officer Temporary Contract | 6 Months | $53 p/hour + super
Local Council Eastern Melbourne Suburbs | Hybrid (50% WFH)
We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to support our client – a values-led local council located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs – on a six-month temporary contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and fast-paced payroll team that plays a vital role in delivering high-quality outcomes for the organisation and its employees.
In this role, you will be responsible for administering the full end-to-end payroll process, handling complex queries, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payroll data. You will also collaborate with key stakeholders across HR, Finance, and IT to implement system improvements and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and policies.
Key Responsibilities: - Administer the end-to-end payroll process including calculations, deductions, tax filings, and payments
- Respond to payroll queries and escalations in a timely and professional manner
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Assist with rate updates, back payments, reclassifications, and PAYG-related matters
- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve payroll issues and enhance system functionality
About You: - Demonstrated experience in a senior payroll function within the public sector, not-for-profit, education, or healthcare settings
- Proficient in Chris21/iChris – experience is mandatory
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and a high level of attention to detail
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
