Senior HR Business Partner – Local Government
We’re seeking an experienced
Senior HR Business Partner
to join a local council in Melbourne’s north-west on a
3-month contract, with strong potential to extend.
This role requires someone with
proven experience in government or large, complex environments, who’s confident navigating challenging employee and industrial relations matters, providing expert HR advice, and supporting leaders through sensitive situations with professionalism and care.
You’ll join a supportive People & Culture team working across all areas of HR — from workforce planning and policy, to investigations, performance management and culture initiatives. The environment is fast-paced and sometimes complex, so sound judgement, resilience and a practical approach are key.
The role will involve: - Partnering with leaders across multiple departments to provide trusted HR advice
- Managing sensitive employee and industrial relations issues with confidence and fairness
- Supporting organisational development, performance, and workforce planning initiatives
- Coaching managers through complex people matters
- Contributing to HR projects and continuous improvement across systems and processes
About you: - Significant experience as a Senior HR Business Partner (or similar) within local or state government
- Strong employee and industrial relations knowledge
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive issues with sound judgement
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline
This is a hands-on, advisory role for someone who thrives on challenge and delivers practical, effective HR outcomes.
If you’re available to start immediately and bring the right government experience, we’d love to hear from you.
Please note, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
