Public Sector People is partnering exclusively with Blacktown City Council to recruit a Senior Coordinator Economic Development.

Help shape the economic future of one of Sydney’s major growth areas. This is an opportunity to turn research and ideas into a practical strategy, build influential partnerships and create opportunities for Blacktown City’s businesses and communities.

With strategy development already underway, you will join at a point where you can influence the direction, establish priorities and lead the next phase of delivery.

The opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Urban Planning and Economic Development, you will lead a small, capable team with strengths in planning, research and data analysis.

You will work alongside urban planning, urban design and heritage colleagues in a collaborative environment that combines specialist expertise to tackle complex challenges across the city.

Building relationships will be central to your success. Working with government, businesses, education providers and community organisations, you will identify shared priorities and develop partnerships that help Council achieve more with its resources.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the development and implementation of Council’s Economic Development Strategy.
  • Progressing the 24-Hour Economy Plan, encompassing business activity, public spaces, transport, safety and the needs of shift workers.
  • Building partnerships that support employment, education, investment and business growth.
  • Developing evidence-based advocacy for government funding, programs and infrastructure.
  • Translating research and stakeholder feedback into clear advice, reports and recommendations.
  • Developing staff, managing priorities and overseeing the team’s work program.
About you
You are a strategic thinker who can connect evidence with action. You ask good questions, communicate clearly and build relationships that lead to practical outcomes.

Your background may be in economic development, urban strategy, government policy or consulting. You will bring experience developing strategies for government, ideally with evidence of progressing recommendations through adoption and implementation.

You will also bring:
  • Relevant degree qualifications and knowledge of NSW planning and local government legislation.
  • Strong research, analytical and plain-English writing skills.
  • Political awareness and confidence engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach, adaptability and a willingness to explore new ways of working.
  • The ability to coach others, manage expectations and maintain focus on agreed priorities.
Council welcomes applications from established leaders and professionals ready to step into leadership who can demonstrate the required capabilities.

Why join Blacktown?
You will have the opportunity to put your mark on significant strategy work and build achievements with lasting value for the city. The team offers a supportive environment with high standards, shared expertise and room to develop your career.

Benefits include:
  • Salary of $148,284.31–$172,002.24 per annum.
  • Car allowance of $11,498.76 per annum.
  • Superannuation in addition to salary and car allowance.
  • Access to a nine-day fortnight through flex time.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Up to two days working from home per week, subject to operational requirements.
This is an office-based leadership role, with flexibility balanced against team, stakeholder and Council meeting commitments.
