About Knox City Council
Knox City Council is a progressive and community focused organisation located in Melbourne’s east, supporting a diverse and growing population. With a strong focus on innovation, performance and service delivery, Knox is investing significantly in modernising its systems and capabilities to better support data driven decision making across the organisation.
A key pillar of this transformation is the Core Business Systems Program, a major initiative to implement a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform and uplift the way data is managed, accessed and utilised across Council.
Knox offers a collaborative, outcomes focused working environment where people are trusted to deliver, supported to grow and empowered to make meaningful impact.
About the RoleThe Senior Data Analyst will play a critical role in the delivery of Knox’s ERP transformation, with a strong focus on finance data migration, data quality and stakeholder engagement across the organisation.
At its core, this role is about untangling complexity. You will be working with a legacy system holding over 30 years of data, where undocumented business rules and historical workarounds exist. Your role will be to proactively identify, interpret and translate these into structured, usable data that can be successfully migrated into the new system.
This is a highly visible role sitting between technical teams, finance SMEs and relevant external stakeholders, acting as a key conduit to ensure alignment, accuracy and delivery.
Beyond the technical capability, success in this role will come from your ability to build trust across a politically sensitive stakeholder environment, particularly when working with finance data and long standing internal processes.
Key focus areas include: - Leading data discovery, profiling and cleansing across complex legacy systems
- Designing and supporting data migration and reconciliation activities
- Working closely with stakeholders to uncover hidden business rules and data nuances
- Supporting ERP implementation and data enablement initiatives
- Acting as a key liaison between Council, project teams and external vendors (if engaged)
- Delivering insights and reporting that support informed decision making
This is a fast paced environment with tight timelines, requiring someone who can operate with autonomy, pace and confidence.
About You
You are a senior data professional who thrives in complex, ambiguous environments and knows how to go beyond the data to understand the story behind it.
You bring strong experience working across ERP or finance system implementations, with a solid understanding of financial data structures such as GL, AP, AR and transactional data.
Importantly, you have the curiosity and intuition to dig deeper into legacy systems, identify inconsistencies and proactively uncover undocumented processes or workarounds that may impact migration outcomes.
You are equally strong on the people side. You understand how to operate in politically sensitive environments, building credibility and trust with stakeholders while navigating competing priorities and perspectives.
Your style is proactive and solutions focused. You are comfortable working under pressure and taking ownership of outcomes.
This role will suit someone who: - Has experience in data migration within ERP or finance system projects
- Brings strong SQL and data analysis capability
- Can confidently engage with finance stakeholders and technical teams
- Has worked in environments where data sensitivity and stakeholder management are critical
- Is comfortable stepping into a lead role across data streams, even without direct reports
