Public Sector People is partnering with Mackay Regional Council to recruit a Senior Coordinator – Water & Wastewater, a key leadership position within the Infrastructure Planning team.
This role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with strategic influence, supporting the planning and future development of essential water and wastewater infrastructure across a growing regional community.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Manager Infrastructure Planning, you will lead the coordination of water and wastewater planning activities, ensuring alignment between long-term strategy, operational performance, and investment priorities.
You will work across multiple teams and stakeholders to support sustainable service delivery, infrastructure resilience, and informed decision-making.
Key responsibilities include: - Developing and maintaining long-term asset management and infrastructure strategies
- Supporting capital works planning, renewal programs, and investment prioritisation
- Providing technical input into hydraulic modelling, network capacity and system performance
- Coordinating data-driven planning approaches and modelling frameworks
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Leading and supporting a multidisciplinary team of technical professionals
- Preparing business cases, reports and strategic recommendations
- Building effective relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators and external partners
- Contributing to sustainability initiatives, innovation and service improvements
About You
You are an experienced water industry professional with a strong technical foundation and the ability to operate at both a strategic and operational level.
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical or similar)
- Demonstrated experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning
- Strong understanding of hydraulic modelling and network planning principles
- Experience contributing to capital works programs and asset planning frameworks
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Proven ability to lead, support and develop technical teams
Experience within local government or similar infrastructure environments will be highly regarded.
