We are seeking an experienced Safety Business Partner to join a local council in the South East Suburbs for a 3-month parental leave contract, commencing March.

This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a pragmatic safety professional who enjoys true business partnering, coaching leaders, and driving continuous improvement across health, safety and wellbeing.

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of People, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, you will provide expert advice across occupational health and safety, ensuring compliance while supporting leaders to build strong, practical safety capability.

You'll balance strategic oversight with operational delivery, working closely with stakeholders to embed safety into everyday practice and maintain a positive, proactive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with leaders to provide practical, solution-focused OHS advice
  • Support and maintain the organisation's Safety Management System
  • Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits and safety inspections across the organisation
  • Monitor compliance with OHS legislation, regulations and codes of practice
  • Contribute to safety initiatives, training and awareness programs
  • Support continuous improvement in safety performance and reporting
About You

You're a confident safety professional who can quickly build credibility and operate with minimal supervision in a complex environment.
You will bring:
  • A qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management or similar
  • 5+ years' experience in a senior OHS / safety advisory role
  • Strong working knowledge of OHS legislation and compliance requirements
  • Proven experience partnering with leaders and influencing outcomes
  • Sound investigation, risk management and reporting skills
  • Local government or large, complex organisation experience (highly regarded)
