A local council in the north-east is seeking an experienced
Risk and Assurance Coordinator
to join their organisation on a 12-month, full-time parental leave contract. This role offers a valuable opportunity to lead core organisational functions including Risk Management, Internal Audit, Insurance, and Business Continuity.
The position is suited to a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record in building effective risk frameworks and fostering a culture of compliance and accountability.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of risk, audit, business continuity, and insurance frameworks.
- Provide expert advice to the Executive Management Team and senior leaders.
- Oversee two direct reports, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.
- Coordinate internal and external audit programs and act as the key liaison for insurers and claimants.
- Ensure systems and processes meet compliance and best practice standards.
- Promote a proactive, informed approach to organisational risk and assurance.
Key Requirements - Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management or a related field (postgraduate qualifications advantageous).
- Substantial experience in enterprise risk, audit, and insurance functions.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and manage a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical, policy development, and reporting abilities.
- A collaborative working style with the ability to operate independently when required.
- Local Council experience is a non negotiable
- Current driver’s licence and happy to undergo a Police Check.
Additional Details - Temporary full-time (38 hours per week) with part-time (0.8 FTE) considered.
- Hybrid work arrangements are available.
- Position is classified as Band 8, offering a salary range of $122,479.30 to $136,887.38 per annum, plus superannuation.
