About Moonee Valley: Moonee Valley City Council, located in Melbourne’s vibrant inner north-west, is a dynamic and diverse community with a strong focus on inclusivity, sustainability and innovation. Our People & Culture team is committed to creating a safe, supportive and high-performing workplace where the wellbeing of our people is at the centre of everything we do.
The Role: As the Return to Work and Wellbeing Coordinator, you will lead Council’s injury and illness management function, ensuring safe, sustainable and timely return-to-work outcomes for employees. Reporting to the Head of People & Safety, this is a key role that balances compliance with a strong focus on people, health and wellbeing.
You will oversee all aspects of WorkCover and non-work-related injury management, provide expert advice to leaders, and coach managers to achieve positive RTW outcomes. Alongside this, you’ll design and deliver proactive wellbeing programs, fitness-for-work assessments, and preventative health initiatives that support staff safety, resilience and engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Lead Council’s RTW and injury management processes, including WorkCover claims and premium management.
- Partner with managers and the WorkSafe Agent to implement effective and people-centred return-to-work strategies.
- Deliver proactive health surveillance, fitness-for-work programs and wellbeing initiatives.
- Provide advice and training to leaders, building capability and accountability across the organisation.
- Champion a culture of safety and wellbeing, contributing to Council’s broader Work Health & Safety strategy.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, Council policies and best-practice frameworks.
About You: You are an experienced RTW and wellbeing professional with a passion for fostering safe and positive workplaces. With strong technical knowledge of WorkCover, return-to-work processes and relevant legislation, you bring a practical, people-first approach to injury management. Your ability to build trusted relationships, provide clear and confident advice, and design programs that make a genuine impact will see you succeed in this role.
Tertiary qualifications in Health Science, Work Health and Safety or a related discipline are desirable, along with WorkSafe-approved Return to Work Coordinator training (or the willingness to obtain it). Experience in managing WorkCover claims and designing workplace wellbeing initiatives is essential, while exposure to local government will be highly regarded.
Your Application: If you are passionate about leading positive return-to-work outcomes and driving wellbeing initiatives that support a safe, healthy and engaged workforce, we’d love to hear from you.
