Rates Officer
to a council in Sydney, NSW.
3-month contract
ASAP Start$48ph + super About the Role
As a Rates Officer, you will be an integral part of the Rates & Receivables Team, responsible for providing efficient, accurate, and customer-focused rates and revenue services. You'll work closely with internal departments and the public, ensuring all administrative functions related to council rates are managed effectively.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Administering rates processes including change of address, property transfers, and section 603 certificates
- Managing pensioner rebate verifications and waste charge adjustments
- Processing and reconciling EFT rate payments
- Reviewing and actioning rate category changes and exemption requests
- Supporting debt recovery for outstanding rates and charges
- Providing advice, data, and reports from the rates and revenue system
- Responding to customer enquiries and contributing to continuous improvement
Qualifications & Experience: - A certificate in a business-related field or bookkeeping
- At least 3 years’ experience in a local government rates and revenue environment
Skills & Knowledge: - Strong knowledge of local government rates systems and procedures
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and time management
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and compliance with WHS and EEO principles
