Public Sector People is proud to partner with the City of Sydney to recruit a Property Compliance Manager. This is a brand-new role, giving the successful candidate a unique opportunity to shape the position from the ground up, build frameworks, and truly make it their own.
This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead compliance for the city owned and operated property portfolio that includes Town Halls, aquatic centres, heritage assets, commercial buildings, and community facilities.
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Business Services Manager, you will take ownership of:
- Ensuring ongoing operational compliance of over 220 building properties with federal, state, and local health, safety, fire, building and environmental laws.
- A significant part of the role is leading fire compliance management—ensuring risk management with, AFSS adherence to fire safety regulations, and rectification of non-compliant assets.
- Other aspects of the role will include compliance relating to: cooling towers, electrical circuit breakers, lifts, hazmat, backflows, kitchen exhausts, TMVs, pressure vessels, high risk works and other regulatory items.
- Establishing and monitoring compliance KPIs, managing audits, and developing action plans for improvement.
- Enhancing the compliance reporting framework to ensure transparency and alignment with regulatory standards.
- Overseeing documentation management, risk mitigation strategies, and proactive compliance planning.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to maintain high compliance standards across operations.
You’ll Bring: - Tertiary qualifications in Property, Facility Management, Law, or a related field (certifications in property compliance/fire safety are highly desirable).
- Demonstrated expertise in fire compliance and risk management, including inspection processes and legislative interpretation.
- A strong administrative background with proven experience maintaining compliance documentation and preparing high-quality reports for senior leadership and regulators.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to influence and negotiate effectively, lead audits, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Strong technology skills including the use of compliance management systems.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach to delivering outcomes.
