This local council is seeking a passionate and experienced Project Officer (Natural Environment) to support the planning and delivery of key environmental, urban greening and open space projects across the region. This role will play a central part in shaping sustainable, nature-based recreation and ensuring our natural and built environments are designed and managed with care.
  
You will contribute to strategic master planning, collaborate across council teams on the implementation of the Urban Greening Plan 2022–2042, and lead the project management of urban revitalization and greening initiatives.
  
  
Key Responsibilities
  
Master planning for Conservation Estates and Reserves
  • Develop Masterplans and concept designs for the local council’s Conservation Estates and Reserves.
  • Prepare designs that celebrate and protect environmental and cultural values while supporting sustainable nature-based recreation.
  • Undertake community engagement activities.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholder working groups.
  • (Example Masterplan available via the local council website.)
  
Urban Greening Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with other council sections to deliver actions within the Urban Greening Plan 2022–2042.
  
Project Management
  • Manage delivery of urban revitalization and greening projects from conception to completion.
  • Oversee procurement, consultant and contractor management.
  • Manage project budgets and reporting.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  
  
Mandatory Qualifications
  • Qualifications in Landscape Architecture and/or Environmental Management.
  • Current Queensland “C” class driver’s license.
  
  
Desirable Qualifications
  • Post-graduate qualifications in Landscape Architecture and/or Environmental Management.
  • Registration as a Landscape Architect (AILA).
  
  
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of relevant environmental and planning legislation and policies (e.g., Planning Regulation 2017, EPBC Act 1999, Biosecurity Act 2014, SEQ Regional Plan, Planning Scheme Policies).
  • Local species knowledge and understanding of regional ecosystems.
  • Horticultural and construction knowledge.
  • Proficiency with software used in natural areas, urban greening and open space planning (e.g., mapping, GIS, and graphic design tools).
