This state department is seeking experienced Project Managers to support the successful delivery of asset renewal projects across their water and wastewater networks and Resource Recovery Centers.
These roles focus on delivering a high volume of minor capital and asset renewal projects that are modest in value but critical in operational importance. Your work will directly contribute to public health, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and the ongoing reliability of essential water and wastewater services.
You will manage multiple short-duration projects simultaneously, bringing structure, discipline, and consistency to planning, budgeting, scheduling, and delivery. Working within their Asset Management Framework, you’ll collaborate across the department and with Delivery Partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and on budget.
Key Responsibilities Project & Program Planning
- Develop and manage renewal project plans to meet time, cost, and quality objectives
- Monitor program delivery performance and recommend improvements
- Contribute to project reviews and audits to ensure compliance with standards
Scope Definition & Delivery
- Lead information gathering, analysis, and stakeholder consultation
- Define and agree project deliverables and scope
- Work closely with Commercial, Partnerships, and Cost Intelligence teams to balance scope, cost, and schedule
Project Management & Reporting
- Manage multiple renewal projects concurrently
- Track progress, budget, and risks across the program
- Provide accurate and transparent reporting to stakeholders
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in project management practices
Engineering & Technical Support
- Support feasibility assessment of engineering solutions
- Review and validate proposed designs to ensure practical, safe, and effective outcomes
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Support budget development, cost tracking, and forecasting
- Investigate and provide insights into cost variances
- Ensure accurate cost capture through effective works management processes
Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project and program risk
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Implement effective controls to manage safety, environmental, and operational risks
Project Close-out & Handover
- Manage project close-out and transition to business-as-usual
- Ensure documentation, lessons learned, and knowledge transfer are completed
Collaboration & Communication
- Build strong relationships across Asset Planning, Infrastructure Delivery, Network Services, Resource Recovery, and Delivery Partners
- Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders to support successful outcomes
About You You are an organized, delivery-focused Project Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. You bring clarity to complex workloads and are comfortable managing multiple projects at once while maintaining attention to detail and stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications & Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Science, IT, or a related field (desirable)
- Project management certification or working towards PMP (advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in project management
- Experience in utilities operations, strategy, or customer service (desirable)
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools
- Proven ability to contribute to organization-wide initiatives and outcomes
