About the role: The primary purpose of the role is to lead the planning, design, procurement, and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects supporting the electrification of Council’s fleet depots and operational facilities. This includes assessing site electrical capacity, managing EV charger installations, and interfacing with utility providers to deliver future-ready infrastructure aligned with Council’s Net Zero strategy.
The department leads the delivery of strategic infrastructure programs supporting electric vehicle (EV) uptake, charging infrastructure, and energy-efficient depot operations to futureproof fleet and city-wide transport services.
Key Accountabilities - Manage the full lifecycle of depot electrification and electrical upgrade projects, including power supply upgrades, smart charger deployments, and renewable energy integration
- Assess and document existing depot electrical infrastructure, including main switchboards, transformer capacity, and grid limitations.
- Lead the interpretation of electrical design drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and charger specifications, ensuring compliance with Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy standards.
- Coordinate consultants, contractors, and ASPs for design submissions, approvals, and site delivery.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (Fleet, City Projects, Sustainability, ICT) to align electrical infrastructure with fleet rollout plans and depot operations.
- Prepare and manage budgets, procurement documentation, and work programs for assigned projects.
- Monitor site works to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and WHS regulations.
- Contribute to energy modelling, monitoring, and reporting for depot power use and charger utilisation trends.
- Provide subject matter expertise on energy consumption, peak demand planning, and smart load management strategies
Key Challenges - Delivering complex multi-site electrical infrastructure projects with competing stakeholder demands and evolving energy requirements.
- Interfacing effectively with ASPs, utility providers, and depot operations teams to achieve optimal outcomes within existing site constraints.
- Maintaining technical compliance with national standards (AS/NZS 3000, 3018, 61439), while balancing delivery timeframes and operational continuity.
- Staying up to date with emerging EV infrastructure trends, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, and renewable energy integration opportunities
Essential Requirements - Electrical trade qualification (NSW electrical licence) or degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing infrastructure projects in utilities, fleet, or depot environments.
- Strong knowledge of power systems including HV/LV switchboards, transformers, metering, and energy management systems.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting electrical designs, coordinating ASP1/ASP2/ASP3 works, and managing delivery under utility provider guidelines.
- Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High-level proficiency in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project), AutoCAD or Revit (for drawing interpretation), and Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management, and compliance in electrical project environments
- Australian Permanent resident or citizen
- Australian Drivers licence
Desirable Requirements - Project Management accreditation (e.g., AIPM, PRINCE2, PMBOK)
- Experience in EV charging systems, battery storage integration, and/or renewable energy infrastructure.
- Knowledge of vehicle telematics, fleet energy forecasting, and smart grid technology.
- Experience working within local government, regulated infrastructure, or fleet operations.
