A local council in Melbourne’s northern suburbs are looking for a Production Manager to support the delivery of a vibrant festivals and events program to begin August 2026 until January 2027.  

This role will play a key part in delivering large-scale community events and festivals, ensuring safe, well-coordinated and professionally executed experiences for the community.

The Opportunity As the Production Manager, you will lead the operational and production aspects of council-run events while also supporting external event organisers through the event permit process. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and event organisers to ensure events are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with best practice risk and operational management.

You will also play a critical role in the planning and delivery of major council events, including key festivals and community celebrations later in the year.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the operational planning and production management for council festivals and events
  • Assess event permit applications and liaise with external organisers and internal stakeholders
  • Provide operational guidance and production expertise to the Festivals & Events team
  • Develop and implement risk management and emergency management plans
  • Coordinate site planning, logistics, supplier procurement and contractor management
  • Oversee operational briefings and coordinate bump-in and bump-out activities
  • Support the development of the Council Events Framework and associated documentation
  • Ensure compliance with safety, risk and operational procedures across event delivery
Key Events Supported This role will support the delivery of several high-profile community events, including:
  • A major arts and culture festival in September
  • A council community awards event in November
  • A community music celebration in December
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience delivering arts, cultural or community events from planning through to execution
  • Strong operational event management and production experience
  • Experience managing contractors, suppliers and event logistics
  • Knowledge of risk management, public safety and event compliance requirements
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A relevant qualification in Event Management, Arts Management or a related field is highly regarded.

Availability for additional hours during festival delivery periods:
  • First two weeks of September and December
  • One evening in November
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check and Police Check
