Public Sector People is proud to partner with Mackay Regional Council to recruit a Planner – Buildings & Facilities, a key technical position within the Infrastructure Planning team.
  
This is an exciting opportunity to influence the long-term planning, renewal and optimisation of one of regional Queensland's most diverse building and facilities portfolios, ensuring Council assets remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose for the community.
  
The Opportunity
  
Reporting to the Coordinator Buildings & Facilities, you will play a critical role in translating asset management strategies into practical maintenance, renewal and capital works programs.
Working closely with operational teams, contractors and key stakeholders, you will provide technical expertise that supports evidence-based investment decisions across Council's extensive building and facilities portfolio.
  
Key responsibilities include:
  • Planning maintenance, renewal and capital works programs for Council-owned buildings and facilities
  • Undertaking condition assessments, inspections and asset performance reviews
  • Maintaining and improving asset registers and asset management systems
  • Supporting capital works planning, budget development and renewal forecasting
  • Preparing technical reports, business cases and investment recommendations
  • Providing technical input into procurement activities and contract delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant building legislation, standards and asset management practices
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors
  • Supporting continuous improvement across asset management systems, policies and planning frameworks
  
Candidates appointed at the Level 7 classification will also have the opportunity to provide specialist advice on complex projects, contribute to policy development and support continuous improvement initiatives across the Buildings & Facilities team.
  
About You
  
You are an experienced asset, facilities, construction or built environment professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with strategic planning.
  
You will bring:
  • Qualifications in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Built Environment or a related discipline
  • Experience in building and facilities asset management, maintenance planning or capital works delivery
  • Strong knowledge of asset management principles and lifecycle planning
  • Experience preparing capital works programs, maintenance schedules and budgets
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans and technical documentation
  • Knowledge of procurement, contract administration and relevant building legislation
  • Excellent analytical, report writing and stakeholder engagement skills
  
Experience working within local government or other complex infrastructure environments will be highly regarded
The successful applicant will be appointed at either Level 6 or Level 7 depending on their experience and demonstrated capability.
