Public Sector People are partnering with a progressive local council in Melbourne’s south east to recruit an experienced
Payroll Officer
for a 6-month temporary contract. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative payroll team within a busy and supportive council environment, contributing to the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for a large and diverse workforce.
This role is ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering high quality payroll services while supporting employees and managers with payroll enquiries.
Key Responsibilities - End-to-end payroll processing, including preparing payroll journals, bank transfers and EFT payments within strict timelines
- Payroll reconciliation and reporting, ensuring payroll aligns with the General Ledger and managing PAYG, superannuation and other deductions
- Maintaining and updating payroll and HR systems, including employee records, salary changes, terminations and employment movements
- Providing payroll advice and support to managers and employees on payroll matters, employment conditions and leave entitlements
- Ensuring compliance and accuracy through maintaining clear audit trails, managing leave balances and adhering to governance and privacy requirements
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Previous payroll experience within Local Government, Healthcare, Education, NFP or State/Federal Government
- 2–3 years’ experience
in a similar payroll position
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
in payroll, finance, HR or a related discipline
- Experience using Aurion and/or Humanforce
payroll systems
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
