We are currently recruiting for
two temporary full-time opportunities
with Blacktown City Council, working within their nursery operations team. These roles are ideal for candidates with horticulture, nursery, landscaping, or outdoor labour experience who enjoy hands-on work and contributing to the production and maintenance of quality plant stock.
These positions offer the opportunity to work within a council environment supporting nursery operations, plant propagation, and green space initiatives.
Nursery Propagator — $44.81/hr
Location:
Rooty Hill
Contract:
Tuesday 12 May 2026 – Friday 7 May 2027
Hours:
Monday to Friday | 6:00am – 2:30pm
This role is suited to an experienced nursery professional with strong propagation knowledge and hands-on horticultural experience.
Key responsibilities: - Collection of seed and propagation material
- Seed sowing and cutting preparation
- Potting and transplanting stock
- Maintaining irrigation and climate control systems
- Monitoring plant health, pests, weeds, and diseases
- Chemical application and storage compliance
- Packing and dispatching nursery orders
- Maintaining seed banks and nursery records
- Supervising staff, volunteers, and work experience personnel
Requirements: - Certificate III in Horticulture
- Previous plant propagation experience
- Current Class C driver’s licence
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- Chemcert/Smarttrain certification
- White Card
Nursery Labourer — $39.39/hr

Contract:
Tuesday 19 May 2026 – Friday 14 May 2027
Hours:
Monday to Friday | 6:00am – 2:30pm
This role is ideal for someone with outdoor labour experience and a genuine interest in plants, gardening, and nursery operations.
Key responsibilities: - Assisting with daily nursery operations
- Seed sowing and plant propagation support
- Potting, pruning, plant labelling, and weed control
- Packing and dispatching orders
- Operating nursery equipment and irrigation systems
- Grounds maintenance including mower, blower, and whipper snipper use
- Tree and shrub planting
- Mulching, landscaping, and general nursery upkeep
Requirements: - Previous outdoor labour experience
- Interest in horticulture or gardening
- Current Class C driver’s licence
Highly regarded: - White Card
- First Aid Certificate
- Smarttrain/Chemcert certification
