Public Sector People are working with a Local Council, who are seeking a Local Laws Officer - Illegal Dumping on a temp contract until 30th June 2027 with opportunity to extend (up to three years).  

This position is primarily responsible for combating illegal waste dumping by implementing the provisions of illegal waste dumping legislation, undertaking investigations, enforcing compliance, educating the community and contribute to developing programs to reduce the issues

  • Pay rate of $42.96 per hour + super
  • South Brisbane Area | On-site parking
  • Contract until 30th June 2027 (+ extension up to three years)
What you will be doing:
  
  • Investigate illegal dumping, dangerous littering (as defined in the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act) and, charity bin dumping (both reactive and proactive response), including enforcement, and handling the arrangements for clean-up of illegal dumping sites.
  • Carry out site inspections and interview alleged offenders and witnesses of offences to gather evidence
  • Communicate with community members to provide updates and advise of outcomes of investigations.
  • Accurately interpret legislation, apply to facts and evidence of matters under investigation, and prepare quality correspondence utilising templates, reports and records.
  • Draft briefings on compliance investigations to management and Councillors
  • Utilise effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to consult, communicate and problem solve effectively with all levels of internal and external customers. 
About you:
  
  • Available to start as soon as possible
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to negotiate and apply conflict resolution skills to influence outcomes at all levels.
  • Proven ability to conduct inspections and investigations on a community level, and produce effective outcomes within the parameters of relevant Legislation and Council policies.
  • Experience in development compliance or Town Planning is desirable but not essential.
  • Cert IV in Investigations, WHS or relevant experience
