Shape the future capability of the housing sector Public Sector People are proud to be partnering with the Australasian Housing Institute (AHI), the peak professional membership body for the social and affordable housing sector across Australia and New Zealand, to appoint a Learning & Development Specialist.
AHI exists to strengthen professional standards, capability and leadership across the housing sector through training, accreditation and sector-wide engagement. As demand for social and affordable housing continues to grow, and regulatory and service expectations increase - the need for a skilled, capable and professional workforce has never been greater.
This newly created role presents an opportunity to play a central part in shaping the learning, capability and professional development of housing practitioners at all stages of their careers.
About the role This is a newly defined, hands-on role working closely with the CEO, members, corporate partners and committees. You will take ownership of AHI’s learning and development offering - designing and delivering high-quality programs, strengthening the AHI Certification Programme, and helping to operationalise the Board’s vision for sector capability uplift.
The role is fully remote and suited to someone who is comfortable working autonomously, building strong stakeholder relationships, and translating strategy into practical, high-impact learning outcomes.
Key responsibilities Learning design & development - Design and develop learning content, workshops, webinars and online resources aligned to AHI’s professional development framework
- Create and evolve a capability framework recognised across Australia and New Zealand
- Develop new learning products and capability-building tools tailored to housing practitioners
- Coordinate external facilitators, SMEs and contractors where required
Program delivery & coordination - Manage end-to-end delivery of AHI’s training and capability programs
- Oversee scheduling, logistics, communications and evaluation
- Ensure consistent quality, relevance and accessibility across all learning offerings
Certification & professional standards - Work closely with the CEO to develop and deliver the AHI Certification Programme
- Contribute to accreditation pathways and assessment frameworks supporting capability uplift from frontline roles through to Executive and Board level
Stakeholder engagement - Build strong relationships with members, corporate partners, committees and sector stakeholders
- Understand member needs and sector trends to inform program development
- Represent AHI at meetings, events and industry forums related to workforce capability
Strategic contribution - Support delivery of the Board’s workforce development strategy
- Identify emerging skill gaps and priorities across the housing sector
- Provide insights on future learning directions, technology and engagement opportunities
About you You will bring experience in learning and development or workforce capability, ideally within human services, housing, not-for-profit or membership-based organisations. You enjoy designing and delivering learning, engaging with stakeholders, and contributing to sector-wide impact.
You will likely have: - Experience in L&D, adult education, capability building or workforce development
- Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate learning programs
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Confidence working remotely with a high level of autonomy
- An understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design
- Experience with LMS platforms and digital learning tools
- Housing or community services experience (highly regarded but not essential)
