Microsoft Hybrid Identity Engineer (2-Year Contract | Local Council)
We’re looking for a
Microsoft-focused Infrastructure Engineer
to lead a major modernisation program for a local council. This is a hands-on, project-driven role where you’ll upgrade ageing on-prem systems and move the environment toward a secure, cloud-ready Microsoft hybrid setup
You’ll take ownership of
identity modernisation (AD/Entra), PKI, DNS/DHCP redesign, HCI migrations, Azure Disaster Recovery, and Azure ARC onboarding, working closely with council teams to deliver staged cutovers and long-term improvements.
What you’ll be working on - Modernising Active Directory and migrating identity into Azure Entra.
- Cleaning up service accounts and privileged access using modern identity practices.
- Rebuilding DNS/DHCP and improving IP management.
- Designing and deploying a new PKI and certificate automation.
- Migrating servers onto hyperconverged infrastructure (VMware/Nutanix/etc.).
- Setting up Azure-based Disaster Recovery and testing failover.
- Implementing modern monitoring using Azure Monitor and/or open-source tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- Producing runbooks, migration plans, and technical documentation, and leading cutovers.
What they’re looking for - Strong experience with Active Directory + Azure Entra
migrations.
- Hands-on Azure engineering skills (DNS/DHCP, DR, Monitor, ARC).
- Solid knowledge of PKI and certificate lifecycle automation.
- Experience with HCI platforms and server migrations.
- Strong scripting/automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep/Terraform).
- Confident working autonomously and leading technical delivery.
