Public Sector People are proud to partner with the City of Sydney to recruit an Information Access Manager within the Digital and Information Services Unit.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced GIPA or Freedom of Information professional to lead the City's information access function as its delegated decision-maker under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009. Leading a specialist team, you'll make complex statutory decisions, provide trusted advice to the Executive Leadership Team and work across every area of the organisation to ensure the City continues to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability and open government.
This is a role for someone who enjoys applying legislation to complex situations, can confidently make independent decisions and has the judgement to navigate sensitive matters with professionalism, diplomacy and integrity.
About the Role Reporting to the Manager Information Services, you will be responsible for:
- Lead and develop the City's specialist Information Access team.
- Act as the City's delegated decision-maker under the GIPA Act.
- Assess and determine complex GIPA applications, subpoenas and other information access matters.
- Provide expert advice to Directors, Executives and business units on information access legislation and disclosure obligations.
- Represent the City in reviews with the Information and Privacy Commission and NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
- Drive proactive release initiatives and promote a culture of open government across the organisation.
- Develop policies, procedures and education programs that strengthen legislative compliance and organisational capability.
- Work collaboratively with Legal, Governance, Archives and operational teams to resolve complex information access matters.
What You'll Bring - Extensive experience administering the Government Information (Public Access) Act (GIPA) or equivalent Freedom of Information legislation.
- Demonstrated experience making independent statutory decisions within a complex public sector environment.
- Strong understanding of balancing transparency with public interest considerations and legislative obligations.
- Experience advising senior executives and confidently influencing stakeholders on sensitive matters.
- Leadership experience managing and developing high-performing specialist teams.
- Excellent judgement, resilience and communication skills, with the confidence to make, explain and defend complex decisions.
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Management, Governance or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
