Independent Chair - CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee
Mornington Peninsula Shire

Public Sector People is partnering with Mornington Peninsula Shire to appoint the Independent Chair to its Chief Executive Officer Employment and Remuneration Committee.

This appointment offers the opportunity to support one of Council’s most significant responsibilities: the employment, performance and remuneration of its CEO. The initial term is three years, with the possibility of two further one-year extensions, providing continuity through the current CEO contract cycle and the 2028 Council elections.

Working closely with the Mayor, Councillors and CEO, you will chair committee meetings and provide independent, constructive advice on CEO employment matters. You will lead the development and assessment of performance objectives, facilitate mid-year and annual reviews, oversee remuneration benchmarking and support recruitment or reappointment processes as required. The role also includes preparing review documentation and reports, supporting quarterly performance updates and ensuring recommendations progress to Council in a timely manner.

We are seeking an established practitioner with strong local government governance knowledge and experience advising elected representatives or comparable governing bodies. You will bring relevant expertise in executive recruitment, employment matters, performance assessment and contemporary remuneration practices, together with the confidence to facilitate challenging discussions and provide advice without fear or favour.

Your ability to build trust while maintaining independence will be central to your success. Previous experience chairing a CEO employment committee or undertaking comparable advisory work would be highly regarded, as would a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between Councillors and the organisation.

The commitment is expected to include mid-year and annual review meetings, quarterly reporting and additional advice and preparation as required. In-person attendance is expected at Council’s Rosebud, Mornington or Hastings offices.

For a confidential discussion, please contact Marcel Lafontaine at Public Sector People on 0423 668 753 or marcel@publicsectorpeople.com.au. To apply, please submit your CV and a brief statement outlining your relevant experience via the Apply button. Applications close Monday 5 October 2026.
