A local council in Sydney is seeking a Governance Officer to join them on a contract basis.

In this role, the successful candidate will provide expert governance advice, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of Council's governance processes, including compliance with legislative requirements, management of delegations, and public access to information under the GIPA and privacy legislation.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide governance advice to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Support Council meetings, including agenda preparation and minute-taking.
- Maintain governance registers and ensure they are up to date.
- Develop and review policies and procedures to improve governance practices.
- Coordinate Councils business papers in accordance with the established timeframes, ensuring a high standard of accuracy and presentation.
- Conduct governance-related research and projects as directed.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders to promote good governance.
What They’re Looking For: - Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation including the Local Government Act 1993, Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998.
- Strong understanding of Local Government processes and legislation.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Proven experience in governance roles.
