Public Sector People are proud to be partnering with Wingecarribee Shire Council to recruit a proactive and community-minded Governance Officer. This role plays a key part in strengthening the integrity and transparency of Council processes by supporting the implementation of governance frameworks and delivering compliance and advisory functions. You’ll contribute to ethical standards, guide legislative compliance, and foster open, effective engagement across the organisation.

About the Role: 
  
Reporting to the Coordinator Governance, you will be responsible for:
  • Supporting the delivery of Council’s governance programs and framework
  • Assisting with Council agendas, notifications and meeting processes
  • Providing guidance on legislative interpretation and access to information
  • Promoting ethical conduct and transparency in corporate decision-making
  • Assisting in the management of policies, complaints handling and public interest disclosures
  • Ensuring adherence to the Local Government Act and related statutory obligations
If you have experience in a similar position or have a degree/ background in Law, Administration, Communications or relevant courses and you are eager to step into the world of governance, I’d love to hear from you.
 
What You'll Bring:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Eager to support and improve governance frameworks in Local Government
  • Interest in understanding the corporate policy cycle and broader strategies
  • Ability to coordinate agendas, speakers and public notification requirements to support processes and decision making 
  • Ability to provide technical advice and use professional judgment 
  • Motivated to contribute to the development and improvement of governance processes and programs
