Public Sector People are partnering with a local council in Melbourne’s north-east suburbs to recruit a
Freedom of Information Officer
for a full-time temporary contract, starting ASAP through to the end of August 2025.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a values-driven organisation where you’ll play a critical role in upholding transparency and access to information in the public sector.
What you’ll do: - Process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the FOI Act 1982, Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014, and Health Records Act 2001.
- Provide expert advice and training to internal stakeholders on FOI and information access practices.
- Coordinate and prepare documentation for subpoenas.
- Develop and maintain FOI policies, templates, procedures, and Council’s FOI webpage content.
- Submit annual reports to the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC).
- Promote awareness of recordkeeping and FOI obligations across the organisation.
What we’re looking for: - A highly experienced FOI specialist or professional with relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage FOI requests in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience providing advice at senior levels and handling sensitive or confidential issues.
- Strong communication and policy writing skills.
- Capable of leading training and building organisation-wide awareness of information access requirements.
