This QLD state department is seeking an experienced Fire Services Engineer with strong technical expertise in the design, assessment, and review of fire protection systems. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of Queensland and Australian fire safety codes and standards, with the ability to evaluate fire system designs, identify compliance issues, and recommend practical, innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities - Design wet and dry fire protection systems in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Evaluate the suitability and compliance of fire system designs, providing expert advice and recommendations where necessary.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of fire system designs and performance solutions to ensure functionality, safety, and compliance.
- Critically review and challenge fire system designs or proposed solutions, identifying potential issues and recommending improvements.
- Prepare detailed reports outlining findings, recommendations, and justifications for proposed changes to fire system designs.
- Provide expert fire safety and fire systems advice to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure fire safety objectives are integrated into building designs and construction processes.
- Stay up to date with relevant fire safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Mandatory requirements - In-depth knowledge of fire safety codes, standards, and regulations applicable to Queensland and Australia.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
- Ability to challenge designs constructively and provide practical, innovative, and compliant solutions.
- Relevant qualifications in fire engineering or a related discipline.
- Registration or accreditation as a fire engineer (e.g., RPEQ, CPEng) is highly desirable.
Desirable
- Experience providing fire safety and fire systems advice in both design and construction phases.
- Familiarity with performance-based design and the development of alternative solutions.
The role requires someone who can provide expert fire engineering advice to project teams and stakeholders, prepare detailed technical reports, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure fire safety is embedded throughout the design and construction process.
