Public Sector People are partnered with a Council in Sydney who are looking for a Financial Accountant to join them for approx. 7 months, with the potential to transition into a permanent role later this year.

This is a great opportunity to step into a well-rounded financial accounting role within a supportive team environment, where you’ll play a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting and driving process improvements.

About the role:
You’ll be an integral member of the Financial Accounting team, supporting a broad range of functions including:

Preparation of General and Special Purpose Financial Reports
Balance sheet and ledger reconciliations (including audit support)
Fixed assets accounting and reporting
Investment and cash flow management support
Taxation returns and statutory reporting compliance
Supporting and mentoring junior team members
Identifying efficiencies and contributing to process improvements

You’ll also act in a 2IC capacity to the Senior Financial Accountant, providing support across the Financial Services Unit.

About you:
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

3+ years’ experience in a financial accounting role
Relevant tertiary qualifications (CA/CPA qualified or near completion)
Strong technical accounting skills and systems experience
Advanced Excel capability

Highly regarded:

Local Government experience
TechnologyOne ERP experience
Experience with investments, internal controls, and financial reporting
