Financial Accountant | Eastern Melbourne Council Contract to August 2025 | $48 p/hour + super | 38 hours per week
We are looking for a detail-oriented
Financial Accountant
to join our client, a respected local council in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. This is a full-time temporary opportunity commencing ASAP through to 31st August 2025. Hybrid work arrangement is available but must be able to attend onsite work for 2 days a week.
You will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the organisation by managing general ledger processes, reconciling accounts, and assisting in the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements. This is an ideal role for an experienced accountant who enjoys variety, thrives in a collaborative team, and is comfortable working in a structured public sector environment.
Key responsibilities will include: - Conducting monthly and quarterly financial close processes, including general ledger reconciliations and journal reviews.
- Undertaking bank reconciliations in line with internal procedures.
- Assisting with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements and supporting notes, ensuring compliance with Accounting Standards and legislative deadlines.
- Providing additional support to the finance team as directed by the Senior Financial Accountant or Coordinator.
About you: - You have a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field, with CPA/CA status or working towards it.
- You bring prior experience in a similar finance role within the public sector, not-for-profit, education, or healthcare space.
- You’re confident navigating large ERP systems—TechnologyOne or Oracle Fusion experience will be highly regarded.
- You have a solid understanding of end-to-end payroll functions and reporting requirements.
