About the Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Head of Financial Planning & Analysis to join our client, a local council in Melbourne's west on a 3-month temporary contract starting as soon as possible.
This is a senior leadership role sitting at the intersection of strategic finance and operational delivery. You'll work directly with the Executive Leadership Team and elected Council members, turning complex financial data into clear, actionable advice. What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the full financial planning cycle — annual budget, long-term financial plan, and monthly/quarterly reporting to the ELT and Council
- Drive strategic finance partnering across the organisation, translating financial data into clear insights for senior stakeholders
- Manage and develop a team of qualified accounting specialists in a high-accountability, deadline-driven environment
- Own financial performance and sustainability reporting including variance analysis, risk identification, and continuous improvement
- Play a key role in shaping Council's financial governance frameworks, policies, and processes in line with the Local Government Acts and VAGO metrics
What We're Looking For
- Experience in Local Government, Healthcare, Education, Not-for-Profit, or State/Federal Government
- Minimum 3–5 years in a relevant senior finance position
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA or CA qualification
- Advanced MS Excel skills
