This state department is looking for an experienced Estimator to support a high-volume program of building and maintenance projects in the Cairns region. This is a contract position with the potential to extend, and you’ll be working closely with project teams across government departments to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities - Prepare accurate and timely estimates, quotations, and tender documents for a range of construction projects.
- Develop project trade packages, material lists, and construction programs.
- Provide supervisory support for the delivery of construction, maintenance, and upgrade works.
- Assist in planning and delivering projects with field staff, office staff, and subcontractors.
- Undertake building condition assessments and inspections, including identifying and collecting asbestos samples for testing.
- Conduct tenancy inspections and maintenance referrals, particularly for Government Employee Housing.
- Promote and enforce safety practices across all projects, including site WHS inspections, documentation reviews, and staff education.
- Support ongoing WHS audits and safety systems in collaboration with the Regional WHS Advisor.
Successful candidate
- A construction industry trade qualification (highly desirable).
- A current General Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card).
- Proven experience estimating for a variety of building projects.
- Strong coordination and supervisory skills to manage workloads across multiple teams.
- A keen eye for detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- The ability to manage a high volume of estimating requests, particularly for Department of Education projects and Western team workloads.
