Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint an Engineer Strategy – Water & Wastewater — a key role supporting the planning and development of long-term water and sewer infrastructure across the region.

This is an opportunity to work at the front end of infrastructure planning, contributing to strategic decision-making, capital investment and growth forecasting within a high-demand and evolving environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Coordinator Strategy – Water & Wastewater, you will provide technical input into infrastructure planning, asset management and capital works programs, supporting both current operations and future growth across the region.

You will play a key role in analysing data, developing strategies and supporting decision-making to ensure sustainable and efficient water and sewer networks.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting development of long-term water and sewer infrastructure strategies and capital programs
  • Undertaking hydraulic modelling for water distribution and sewer networks
  • Assisting with development assessments related to water and sewer infrastructure
  • Preparing concept designs, business cases and capital works proposals
  • Analysing asset performance, condition and capacity to inform future planning
  • Supporting development of asset management frameworks and forecasting models
  • Managing planning projects through early development stages
  • Providing technical advice to internal stakeholders and project teams
This role operates under limited direction and contributes to strategic planning and infrastructure outcomes across the region.

About You
You are a technically capable engineer with experience across water and/or wastewater infrastructure, looking to further develop your strategic and planning capability.

You will bring:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in water and/or sewer infrastructure planning, design or asset management
  • Exposure to hydraulic modelling (water distribution and sewer networks)
  • Experience in project planning, development assessments or capital works support
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to strategic outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Local government experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
