Public Sector People are recruiting for an experienced
Director, Financial Management and Assurance
on behalf of a State Government Department. The purpose of this role is to provide critical analysis, high-level strategic advice to senior executives on financial management, and ensure the department meets its legislative, assurance, and corporate governance responsibilities. This is a temporary opportunity for 3 months + potential extension.

Role Responsibilities and Key Duties:
As the
Director, Financial Management and Assurance
you will have responsibility for the following:
- Provide critical analysis and high-level strategic advice to senior executives on financial management, resource and asset management issues.
- Negotiate effectively and persuasively with executive managers and external agencies on sensitive and complex issues to gain commitment to agreed financial and resource management outcomes.
- Ensure the Department meets its legislative, assurance and corporate governance, and reporting responsibilities for financial management and internal controls.
- Guide, foster and effectively manage multidisciplinary work teams whose emphasis is to provide high level service delivery and strategic advice to clients on financial, resource and asset management issues.
- Lead and manage the preparation of financial information for the 2026-27 State Budget Process, including Cabinet Budget Review Committee submissions, budget papers and ministerial briefs, and forward estimates update.
- Oversee management of the department’s capital works and asset programs.
- Inspire and guide a team of 4 direct reports and approximately 20 staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
- Support the S/4 HANA solution implementation as data steward.
- Support department-wide initiatives and Transformation Office work as directed.
About you: - Mandatory:
An appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., commerce, accountancy, business) AND membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA), or MIPA status with the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
- Demonstrated experience operating at a Program Leader
level within the Leadership competencies for Queensland
framework.
- Excellent Communication Skills, including high-level negotiation and persuasive abilities.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in complex financial and legislative contexts.
- Ability to work within a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, providing strategic advice under tight deadlines.
- You must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status, or possess a valid visa allowing you to work in Australia.
