Coordinator – Transport & Traffic Mackay Regional Council | Infrastructure Planning | Level 8 ($130,539 plus super)
Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint a Coordinator – Transport & Traffic — a senior leadership role responsible for coordinating transport infrastructure planning, traffic engineering and road network management across the region.

The role combines technical transport expertise with leadership, stakeholder engagement and long-term infrastructure planning.
The Role Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Built Infrastructure & Natural Assets, you will lead the coordination, planning and delivery of transport and traffic initiatives across the Mackay region.
You will oversee transport infrastructure planning, traffic engineering, road safety initiatives and traffic management programs while supporting long-term asset management and strategic infrastructure outcomes.
This role acts as a key leadership position within Council’s Infrastructure Planning function and will work closely with internal teams, state agencies, consultants, contractors and the community.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating transport and traffic engineering and asset management functions
- Leading transport planning, traffic studies and infrastructure programs
- Reviewing and endorsing technical reports, business cases and transport strategies
- Supporting integrated transport planning, public transport and active transport initiatives
- Managing traffic modelling, road safety and network performance assessments
- Providing high-level technical advice to senior stakeholders and Council
- Coordinating consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Managing program performance, budgets, risks and service delivery outcomes
- Supporting stakeholder engagement and community consultation activities
- Leading and mentoring technical staff across the Transport & Traffic team
This role carries significant responsibility for strategic planning, technical leadership and transport infrastructure decision-making across the region.
About You You are an experienced transport, traffic or civil infrastructure professional with strong technical capability and proven leadership experience within complex infrastructure environments.
Council is seeking someone who can provide strategic direction while also supporting operational delivery, stakeholder management and team leadership across a busy and evolving transport function.
You will bring:
- Experience in transport planning, traffic engineering or road infrastructure management
- Strong understanding of transport asset management and lifecycle planning
- Experience delivering transport strategies, road safety initiatives and traffic programs
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams or programs
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication capability
- Experience preparing technical reports, business cases and funding submissions
- Knowledge of Austroads, TMR standards and relevant transport legislation
- Experience using traffic modelling and analytical tools such as SIDRA, AutoCAD or GIS platforms
- Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or related discipline highly regarded
- RPEQ highly regarded for engineering candidates but not mandatory depending on background and experience
Council is open to candidates from local government, TMR, consulting or broader transport infrastructure environments. Strong technical grounding and leadership capability will be highly valued.
