Key Responsibilities Service Delivery - Lead and oversee the delivery of development assessment, strategic land use planning, building and plumbing regulatory functions, compliance activities, and strategic planning initiatives, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, Council policies, and organizational objectives.
Technical Leadership - Provide expert technical leadership in the interpretation, application and administration of planning, development, building, plumbing and environmental legislation, strategic planning frameworks, and Council policies to support sound decision-making and statutory compliance.
Strategic Planning and Policy Development - Lead the preparation, review and implementation of strategic land use planning initiatives, including planning schemes, masterplans, planning policies and other strategic planning instruments that support sustainable growth and community outcomes.
Information and Professional Advice - Deliver high-quality reports, correspondence, recommendations and professional advice to Council, management, elected members, internal stakeholders, developers and the community on development and strategic planning matters.
Leadership and People Management - Lead, develop and support a multidisciplinary planning team by providing clear direction, coaching, performance management and professional development to ensure effective, timely and customer-focused service delivery.
Strategic Business Planning - Assist the Manager to develop, implement and monitor strategic, operational and business plans that align with Council priorities and deliver continuous improvement across the Planning and Environment function.
Project and Program Management - Plan, coordinate and deliver strategic and operational projects, ensuring milestones, budgets, resources and outcomes are effectively managed across both development and strategic planning programs.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration - Foster productive relationships with government agencies, developers, industry, community groups and internal stakeholders through effective consultation, communication and collaborative problem-solving.
Business Improvement and Innovation - Identify and implement opportunities to improve systems, processes, service delivery and team capability, promoting innovation, organizational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Training, Development and Safety - Promote a culture of continuous learning, maintain professional knowledge and ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety obligations, Council policies and legislative requirements.
Mandatory requirements - Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver’s license.
- A degree level qualification in Town/Urban Planning or equivalent
- Demonstrated or extensive experience in the enforcement of the provisions of the planning scheme and relevant planning, plumbing and building legislation and understanding of council's policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and/or proven experience working with a local government strategic planning or relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including the Planning ACT 2016.
- QLD and Local Government experience is preferred.
Desirable
- Primarily QLD Experience in local government & state govt, secondary private sector.
