Public Sector People is partnering with Livingstone Shire Council (LSC) to recruit an accomplished Coordinator Development Assessment. This is a key opportunity to lead a high-performing team and play a central role in shaping the future of the Capricorn Coast through efficient, legally compliant, and community-focused statutory planning services.

The Role
Reporting to the Manager Development & Environment, you’ll oversee the Development Assessment team, guiding complex planning matters and ensuring processes are aligned with Council’s strategic goals. You will provide expert planning advice, represent Council in legal and compliance matters, and drive continuous improvement across systems and service delivery.

Key areas of focus include:
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the Development Assessment team.
  • Overseeing delivery of statutory planning and development assessment services in line with legislation, policy, and Council direction.
  • Providing expert advice to internal stakeholders, elected members, external agencies, and the community.
  • Representing Council in enforcement and legal proceedings, including preparing documentation and liaising with legal representatives.
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement across planning systems, processes, and policies.
About You

We’re seeking a capable leader with:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning (or related field) and/or extensive experience in statutory planning.
  • Proven leadership experience in a local government or regulatory planning environment.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and development assessment processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex matters in political, legal, and community-facing contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and represent Council confidently.
Why Join LSC?

Based along the stunning Capricorn Coast, Livingstone Shire offers a lifestyle second to none, with beaches, national parks, and island escapes on your doorstep.

This position offers:
  • Relocation bonus available to support your move.
  • Exciting leadership role shaping the region’s planning and development future.
  • 9-day fortnight (RDOs) and flexible working arrangements.
  • Total Remuneration Package circa $150,000 including superannuation.
  • 12% superannuation and salary packaging options.
  • The opportunity to make a real impact in a collaborative, community-focused organisation.
