Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint a Coordinator – Building & Facilities — a key leadership role responsible for shaping the strategic planning, renewal and capital delivery of Council’s building and facility portfolio.
This is an opportunity to lead a critical asset class within a growing regional Council, ensuring facilities are safe, compliant, financially sustainable and aligned to long-term service delivery objectives.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Built Infrastructure & Natural Assets, you will provide strategic oversight of Council-owned buildings and facilities across a region servicing approximately 125,000 residents.
You will lead the planning and delivery of maintenance, renewal and capital upgrade programs across diverse asset types while ensuring compliance with legislative, WHS and governance requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading lifecycle planning and asset condition assessments across the facilities portfolio
- Coordinating capital works programs and maintenance schedules
- Preparing and managing operational budgets and long-term financial forecasts
- Overseeing procurement processes, tender documentation and contract administration
- Managing and mentoring technical staff, contractors and consultants
- Providing specialist technical advice to senior management and Council
- Driving continuous improvement in asset management systems and governance frameworks
- Ensuring compliance with relevant building codes, standards and WHS legislation
This role carries significant accountability for program delivery, risk mitigation and strategic infrastructure planning within the Infrastructure & Operations Directorate.
About You
You are a technically strong and strategically minded building or asset professional who thrives in a leadership environment.
Council is seeking a leader who can confidently manage capital programs and compliance obligations, while also fostering a high-performance, accountable team culture.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Built Environment or related discipline
- Substantial experience delivering building and facilities capital and maintenance programs
- Strong understanding of asset management systems and lifecycle planning principles
- Demonstrated experience managing contractors and procurement processes
- Sound knowledge of relevant building codes, WHS legislation and regulatory compliance
- Experience preparing and managing budgets and capital forecasts
- Strong stakeholder engagement and advisory capability
Experience within a local government or public sector environment will be highly regarded.
