Coordinator Building Services Clarence Valley Council Grafton or Maclean, NSW | Full-Time Public Sector People are partnering with Clarence Valley Council to appoint a Coordinator – Building Services to lead their Building Services team within the Development and Land Use Planning section.
Covering more than 10,000 square kilometres and supporting a community of over 50,000 residents, Clarence Valley Council is one of the largest and most diverse regional councils in coastal NSW, with a high volume of development activity across urban and rural areas.
This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, compliant and efficient development outcomes across the region, while driving consistency, performance and service delivery across the Building Services team.
About the Role Reporting to the Manager Development and Land Use Planning, the Coordinator – Building Services leads a team of building surveyors and technical staff delivering assessment, certification and advisory services across the LGA.
You will oversee a high-volume portfolio of applications, with the majority relating to residential development, alongside a mix of more complex certification and compliance matters.
This is a leadership-focused role. While technical capability is important, the priority is someone who can bring structure, consistency and performance across the team, while improving customer outcomes and service delivery.
The role will also work closely with internal stakeholders, industry professionals and regional council networks to support best practice and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage the Building Services team, including senior building surveyors and technical staff
- Drive consistency and quality across assessment and certification decisions
- Oversee Development Applications (Classes 1 and 10), Construction Certificates and associated applications
- Provide technical advice on building compliance and legislative requirements
- Improve systems, reporting and service delivery processes
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, industry stakeholders and the community
- Support a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture
About You You are a qualified Building Surveyor with experience in building certification, development assessment or regulatory services, and the leadership capability to step into or further develop in a team leadership role.
Candidates from local government or private certification backgrounds will be considered, though experience within the NSW planning framework will be highly regarded.
You will bring: - Registration as a Building Surveyor (or eligibility to obtain registration)
- Experience assessing development and certification applications
- Strong understanding of NSW planning and building legislation
- Leadership experience or the capability to step into a leadership role
- The ability to influence, mentor and bring consistency across a team
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to service delivery and improvement
