About Uniting Vic.Tas Uniting Vic.Tas is a values driven community services organisation with a proud history of supporting people and communities for over 100 years. Working across Victoria and Tasmania, Uniting delivers a broad range of services spanning housing, homelessness, family services, disability, mental health and community development, guided by a clear purpose: to inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice.
Within this, the Housing & Property division is entering a significant growth and transformation phase, with an expanding development pipeline, increasing portfolio complexity and a strategic focus on long term sustainability across community housing, retirement living and property operations.
As the organisation continues to evolve its Housing strategy across Victoria and Tasmania, this newly positioned role represents an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded finance leader to step into a highly visible and influential role.
About the Role The Commercial Finance Manager – Housing & Property sits within the Finance & Procurement division, reporting to the Head of Finance and partnering closely with the Executive Director – Housing & Property and broader leadership team.
This is not a traditional finance role, sitting at the intersection of finance, property, development and community impact, the role will act as the commercial finance lead across a complex and evolving housing and property portfolio.
A key focus of the role will be supporting strategic investment and development decisions through advanced financial modelling, feasibility analysis, forecasting and long term sustainability planning. You will work across a portfolio of projects, developments and operational assets, helping leadership understand how individual projects contribute to the broader funding and balance sheet strategy of the organisation.
The role will play a critical part in supporting: - Property development feasibilities
- Capital projects and tender submissions
- Cash flow and funding sustainability
- Debt covenant and scenario modelling
- Budgeting, forecasting and board reporting
- Financial governance and portfolio performance
This position requires someone who can operate comfortably at both a strategic and operational level. While there is a strong commercial and development focus, the role also remains hands on in supporting day to day finance operations and partnering closely with stakeholders across the business.
You will lead a small team while working closely with finance, development and operational leaders across the organisation. The environment is dynamic, evolving and highly collaborative, requiring someone comfortable navigating complexity and balancing competing priorities.
The role will also contribute to strengthening internal financial capability, improving visibility across the portfolio and helping shape the next phase of Uniting’s Housing & Property strategy.
About You You are a commercially astute finance professional with experience operating within complex property, infrastructure, development or asset intensive environments.
You understand feasibility modelling, development finance and long term funding structures, and you are comfortable partnering with senior stakeholders to guide commercial and strategic decisions.
Importantly, you are not someone who sits purely at a high level. You are willing to roll your sleeves up, work through operational detail when required and thrive in environments where agility and adaptability are critical.
Your background may come from: - Property or development
- Infrastructure or capital projects
- Commercial finance
- Community housing
- Retirement living
- Complex not for profit environments
What matters most is your ability to combine: - Commercial acumen
- Technical finance capability
- Strategic thinking
- Strong stakeholder engagement
- And a willingness to work across both strategic and operational finance responsibilities.
You are confident working with executive leadership, capable of translating complex financial information into clear insights, and comfortable operating in an environment that is evolving rapidly.
CA / CPA qualifications are essential, or CIMA or CFA also highly regarded, alongside strong experience in financial modelling, feasibility analysis and business partnering. Application Process For a confidential discussion or to receive a copy of the Candidate Information Pack, please contact
