About the role: The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of operational and/or trades/technical staff and/or contractors and sub-contractors engaged in operational works for council. This is a critical role for council to manage a busy department for efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities: - Daily supervision of and allocation of work to Council’s outdoor staff and contractors engaged on maintaining and restoring our civil asset works
- Organize day labor staff and training for day labor staff
- Checking and authorization of timesheets and following up on pay disputes raised
- Record and monitor leave requirements, WHS claims and adjust rosters accordingly for outdoor staff, as required
- Carry our customer request investigations, organize works if required and upload reports
- Carry out compliance inspections of vehicular crossings, asset restorations and the Works Improvement Program as required
- Carry out cost estimates and manage the work order process, including the supervision of internal staff and contractors, as required
- Carry out performance appraisals as part of the Employee Development System (EDS) and on contractor/day labour staff performance, when required
- Manage contractor disputes and internal staff grievances at Supervisor level
- Ensure staff use plant that is registered for National Heavy Vehicle Compliance, if required
- Ordering of materials, processing of delivery dockets, plant hire sheets, and organising the records and servicing/repairs for plant and equipment, as required
- Invoicing, review/authorization/approvals
- Inspection and investigation of complaints from our customers
- Liaison with customers, public utilities, contractors, traffic controllers and staff from Council’s other departments/sections
- Assist in organising annual events and festivals
- Carry out workplace inspections
Key Skills Required: - Extensive experience in the application of skills in all aspects of the job
- Solid knowledge of application of skills in complex areas of the job
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of operational and/or other trades/technical staff
- Demonstrated communication skills when responding to staff
- Current class C driver’s
