Public Sector People is working with a leading South East Queensland water utility is seeking an experienced Category Manager to join their Procurement & Supply Chain team on a contract basis, specialising in the Labour Services category.
This is a great opportunity for a procurement professional to take ownership of a critical category, developing the overarching strategy and sourcing plan across all Labour Services subcategories and driving implementation from the ground up.
Key Details: - Daily rate up to $1,100 or $1232 via ABN
- Contract until 29th January 2027
- Based in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
- Hybrid working arrangement – minimum 2 days in office per week
- Option for a 9-day fortnight, maintaining 38 hours per week
The Role:
As Category Manager, you'll be responsible for the development, implementation, and lifecycle management of category strategies, driving commercial and supply chain outcomes across your portfolio. This full-cycle procurement role spans planning, sourcing, and contract management, alongside building strong supplier and stakeholder relationships to optimise value and ensure compliance with governance standards.
Key Responsibilities: - Develop and implement the Labour Services category strategy and sourcing plan, commencing implementation across all subcategories
- Manage supplier performance, negotiate favourable terms, and drive continuous improvement
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while managing risk and ensuring compliance
- Prepare high-quality category and procurement submissions for senior leadership and stakeholder groups
- Lead end-to-end contract management, including drafting, negotiating, and overseeing contract documents
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Utilise spend, market, and supplier data to inform strategic recommendations
- Integrate ESG considerations into sourcing decisions
About You: - Degree level qualification in business, finance, procurement, or a related discipline, and/or significant work experience in the procurement profession
- MCIPS or equivalent accreditation desired
- Strong experience in category strategy development, supplier management, and contract negotiation
- Proven ability to prepare and present commercial submissions to senior leadership
- Proficiency in ERP and Source-to-Pay systems, and the Microsoft Suite
