Public Sector People are partnering with a local council to recruit an experienced Band 6 Communication & Marketing Officer for a temporary six-month contract!
  
As the Senior Communications and Marketing Officer, you’ll play a key role in delivering clear, timely and effective messaging for the Council initiatives, services, and community engagement. Reporting to the Principal Specialist Communications and Marketing, you’ll support strategic communications planning, media relations, crisis communications, digital content, and advocacy initiatives.
You’ll manage and improve Council’s digital platforms, oversee branding consistency, and develop communications that reach across the Scenic Rim—supporting both community connection and internal alignment.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Provide expert advice to stakeholders on best-practice communications, media, marketing and engagement.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of high-quality content across digital and print channels.
  • Manage Council’s media relations, including proactive and reactive media responses.
  • Maintain and enhance Council’s website and intranet for improved user experience and accessibility.
  • Support internal communication initiatives, strategic advocacy projects, and disaster/crisis communication efforts.
  • Ensure consistency in branding and messaging, aligned with Council’s corporate style guide.
About you:
  • A degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, media liaison, and content creation.
  • A strong grasp of digital platforms, including websites (SharePoint), intranet, and social media.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop.
  • A C Class driver’s licence.
