Assistant Accountant – Fixed Assets
South East Melbourne | $50 p/hour + super | 6-month temporary contract | Hybrid working
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Accountant to support our client, a dynamic local council in Melbourne’s south-east. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing Finance team on a full-time, six-month temporary contract, offering flexible working arrangements with three days onsite and two days from home.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the fixed asset register, supporting capital expenditure processes, and delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments, adding value through your analytical skills and financial expertise.
Key responsibilities:
- Review capital expenditure to determine capitalisation or expense treatment, liaising with Project Managers and the Asset Management team as needed
- Perform monthly reconciliations between the general ledger and fixed asset registers (e.g., Assetic)
- Analyse operating expenditure to identify costs of a capital nature requiring asset register inclusion
About you:
- Previous experience in a similar role within the Public Sector, Not-for-Profit, Education, or Healthcare sectors
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance and working towards CA or CPA
- Strong knowledge of AASB 116 and experience working with Work in Progress (WIP), OPEX, and CAPEX accounts
- Proficiency in reconciling fixed assets with the general ledger and maintaining asset registers
